International Drive Relay for Life Went Hollywood with Movie Theme at Pointe Orlando

ORLANDO, FL--The Third Annual International Drive Relay for Life took on a lighter tone this year as it partners with Regal Cinemas and Pointe Orlando offered participants and visitors a chance to experience some of their favorite movies May 21-22, 2010 at Pointe Orlando!
 
Each sponsoring team had a campsite that was themed to a particular movie. Featured movies included: Twilight: New Moon, Gone with the Wind, Toy Story, Top Gun, Star Wars, Pretty in Pink, Sideways, Point Break, Ultimate Breakers, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Castaway, Wizard of Oz and more!
 
Participating teams included the International Drive Master Transit & Improvement District, Regal Cinemas, Orange County Convention Center, Brighton, Capital Grille, Regal Cinemas, Pointe Orlando, Rosen Hotels & Resorts, AVID Excellence, WonderWorks, Elite, Strength in Faith, Orlando Call Center for A Cure, Team Hana and Team Frank for a total of 15 teams and more than 150 participants.
 
Luann Brooks, executive director of the I-Drive Master Transit & Improvement District was the District’s team captain for Relay 2010 and she said that lots of fun activities took place, including Twilight: New Moon theme for the District site complete with twinkling lights, vampires, photos taken with standup characters from the movie and more!
 
“We looked forward to the support from our tourism industry in this annual I-Drive Relay for Life and to increasing our contribution to this important event for a disease that impacts all of us. In 2010, at least 1.3 million people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer. It is fitting that International Drive, a world famous family vacation destination, should be one of the area’s locations for Relay for Life.” 
 
Opening ceremonies began at 6 p.m. on May 21 and the Relay ran through noon on May 22, the 18-hour event provided fun for the entire family.
 
Friday’s schedule included:
6 p.m. Opening ceremony
6:30 p.m. Survivor Lap and teams began Relay
7 p.m. Regal Cinema Prize Wheel
9 p.m. Luminaria ceremony
Midnight Regal Cinemas showed Madagascar
 
Shamu joined in the festivities and posed for photos. A ballon artist created amazing works. There was lots of food including Copper Canyon Ribs, Johnny Rockets mini shakes and Capital Grill steak sandwiches.
 
Saturday’s schedule included:
9:30 a.m. Closing ceremony
10 a.m. Final lap Noon
Relay 2010 ended
